Racism in Sport

I became a counseling psychologist because the whole person, your well-being, and the experience of the sport participation is what is most important to me. Part of my mission is to help systems create and cultivate a performance environment that helps increase well-being- to have sport be an avenue to enhanced self-esteem, positive mood, and personal affirmation. As a straight, white, woman, I have much privilege as I walk through my life, and so I need to seek opportunities to learn more about others' experiences, and to understand why those goals are so very lofty for athletes of color. I am grateful to author Howard Bryant who has written about painful, controversial topics, and because of his courage, I can better understand the racism that exists in sport right now. Check out his writings.
